Holy shit. Now THIS is what I call a teaser. So “The Dark Knight Rises” and “The Hobbit” had pretty good teasers. But this is just something else, based solely on the imagery on display. There is some incredible artistry at work here, with director Ridley Scott bringing a very ambitious vision to life. And the scope looks absolutely epic. It’s also a very well-edited trailer, with the pulsating cuts amping up the sense that we’re in for quite a ride. And kudos to Twentieth Century Fox’s marketing department for that title treatment, which all but screams “This IS Alien!” Beyond all the executional brilliance, what’s really exciting the geek in me is that Scott seems to be playing with very big themes. He’s not just re-inventing the “Alien” mythology, it’s becoming apparent that he’s trying to do something new in the sci-fi genre. It’s official: “Prometheus” is now Electroshadow’s most anticipated movie of the year. What do you think, folks?

Here’s the studio’s overly generic synopsis: “Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery. ”

“Prometheus” stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce and Patrick Wilson. The sci-fi horror premieres 8th June 2012.
