Rock Of Ages Trailer
What’s this? Tom Cruise in a musical?! Well, yes. Any skepticism is understandable, since it’s the equivalent of rockers trying to act. And those don’t usually turn out so well. In this case however, it isn’t a starring vehicle for Cruise but more of an ensemble piece. Cruise’s character Stacey Jaxx, is a supporting player in a much larger backdrop of the rock music scene in the late 1980s. This first trailer is already downplaying his presence while playing up the character’s mythic status. From the looks of it, director Adam Shankman seems to have gone for a heady, stylised kind of reality, which makes sense in a genre where people regularly burst out into song for no apparent reason.
The official synopsis goes like this: “Rock of Ages tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and more.”
“Rock Of Ages” also stars Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Ackerman, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, Alec Baldwin. The musical comedy premieres 1st June 2012 in the US.
