Ice Age 4: Continental Drift Trailer

Whoa, how did this reach four movies? I enjoyed the first “Ice Age” for what it was — Pixar-lite. The subsequent films however, fell prey to the law of diminishing returns. I could barely make it through the 3rd one. It was dull as dishwater. 20th Century Fox never seemed to understand that the real star of the show has always been the incidental character of Scrat. Honestly, his short adventures (acorn hunt!) were much more engaging and fun than the main plot. Maybe the studio has learnt its lesson, because this outing sees Scrat’s role amped up considerably. They even released a special trailer featuring just him. But could making him a main character be too much of a good thing? We’ll find out soon enough. In the meantime, we’re back to the not-too-interesting main characters like Manny, Diego and gang. Ho-hum.

Here’s the official synopsis: “In “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” Scrat’s nutty pursuit of the cursed acorn, which he’s been after since the dawn of time, has world-changing consequences — a continental cataclysm that triggers the greatest adventure of all for Manny, Diego and Sid. In the wake of these earth-shattering upheavals, Sid reunites with his long lost family, and the gang encounters a ragtag menagerie of colorful new characters determined to stop them from returning home.”

It premieres 13th July.
