Early reviews for the Tarsem Singh Snow White comedy “Mirror Mirror” have not been kind. So now, it’s left to director Rupert Sanders to do a proper job of reimagining the classic fairy tale, with “Snow White & The Huntsman”. So far, everything that I’ve seen of the film has been extremely promising. With the possible exception of Kristen Stewart as the titular leading lady. Her one-note acting aside, can anyone honestly say she’s more of a beauty than the stunning Charlize Theron? Still, this project is re-tooling our heroine as more of an action-oriented type rather than a delicate damsel in distress. And that may well work in Stewart’s favour, even though she’s no Gina Carano. This new trailer, actually an extended TV spot, really shows off the new side of Snow White, as well as some pretty impressive visuals. And yet I can’t help shake the feeling that the focus is on Theron’s Queen. Maybe it is her story. Fascinating.

Here’s the official synopsis: “In the epic action-adventure “Snow White and the Huntsman”, Kristen Stewart (“Twilight”) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, “Thor”) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power. The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of “Alice in Wonderland,” producer Sam Mercer (“The Sixth Sense”) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.”

“Snow White and the Huntsman” premieres 1st June.
