If I were to judge the upcoming Batman movie based solely on its marketing campaign thus far, I’d give it a big fat Fail. Warner Bros has been downright lazy in promoting Christopher Nolan’s supposedly final instalment of the “Dark Knight” trilogy. All we’ve gotten is a half-hearted viral campaign, a couple of okay trailers, and a bunch of weak posters. Frankly, with the fine work Twentieth Century Fox and even Columbia Pictures have been doing with their properties, not to mention Warner’s own superb virals for the previous Batman, there is just no excuse. They shouldn’t take the success of the franchise for granted. It’s come to the point where the sub-par promotions have begun to affect fan perception of “The Dark Knight Rises”, especially in light of the runaway success of Marvel’s “The Avengers”.
Today, a fresh batch of posters debuted online, focusing on the three central characters: Bats (Christian Bale), Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) and Bane (Tom Hardy). While these aren’t mindblowing, they at least go quite a way in selling the cool of Nolan’s Batman universe. About bloody time, guys.
Here’s the official synopsis: “Every hero has a journey. Every journey has an end. Christopher Nolan returns to complete the epic Gotham trilogy that launched with Batman Begins and reached the stratosphere with the billion-dollar blockbuster The Dark Knight.
