The 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival just concluded, and the results came as a surprise to few. It rewarded one of its favourite directors, with Michael Haneke taking the Palme d’Or trophy for “Amour” as Best Film. I’m no big fan of the Austrian filmmaker. I absolutely hated his “Funny Games”. Both versions of them (an English version was made with Naomi Watts). Still, I’ve not watched “Amour” and will reserve judgement on it.

I was however, happy that Mads Mikkelsen won Best Actor for his work as a small-town man accused of child abuse in “The Hunt”. Best actress was a surprise, as it was a joint win by the co-stars of Romanian movie “Beyond The Hills”, Cristina Flutur and Cosmina Stratan. The Cristian Mungiu-directed drama set in a remote Romanian monastery also won Best Screenplay. Carlos Reygadas of Mexico was named best director for his surreal family drama “Post Tenebras Lux”. The prize winners were chosen from among 22 contenders by a jury, led by Italian director Nanni Moretti, that included actors Ewan McGregor and Diane Kruger, “The Descendants” director Alexander Payne and fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier.

Here’s a selection of images featuring some of the stars in attendance at the 12-day festival. Fashion pundits have said that this year’s looks are probably one of the most stylish in the history of the fest. What do you think?
