Yes, Andre Benjamin, aka Andre 3000, that funky singer dude from Outkast is playing music legend Jimi Hendrix. It’s an unofficial biopic called “All Is By My Side”, written and directed by John Ridley (TV’s “Barbershop”). Apparently, the story was not approved by Hendrix’s estate, which could mean this is an honest, possibly even unflattering depiction of the man. Hendrix was known to enjoy some recreational chemicals, if you know what I mean.

Darko Entertainment, Subotica Entertaiment and Matador Pictures today announced that production has begun on the film, with location shooting kicking off in Ireland. Comingsoon managed to scoop some spypics of Benjamin in full Hendrix makeup and wardrobe, and I gotta say he sure looks the part. And musically, I’m sure he can handle himself. Hopefully, he has the acting skills to match. The set shots also captured Hayley Atwell (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Linda Keith, the woman who discovered Hendrix.
