Well, well, well. Turns out this isn’t just a spin-off from Matt Damon’s Bourne series. It’s actually a sidequel. What’s a sidequel? It’s a film that tells a parallel story with that of a previous film in a series, where certain characters are seen in similar situations but this time from a different or additional perspective. Also, sidequels share small but significant intertwining plot points. In this case, “The Bourne Legacy” seems to be using the events of “The Bourne Ultimatum”, which itself used parts of “The Bourne Supremacy”. This is all getting quite interesting now, and who knows, we might even see Matt Damon popping up for a cameo. His face and name already appears in this anyway. Plus, the action here looks pretty well-staged, so as of now I’m quite excited to see what Jeremy Renner and director Tony Gilroy can bring to the franchise.

Here’s the official synopsis: “The narrative architect behind the “Bourne” film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: “The Bourne Legacy.” The writer/director expands the “Bourne” universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.”

“The Bourne Legacy” also stars Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac. It premieres 3rd August.

stacey: Welcome back to the site! Yeah, upon a closer inspection of the trailer, I spotted scenes in Manila, and stuff like the Jeepneys. Always cool to see different locations featured in these globetrotting espionage flicks.
