I recently re-watched “Jurassic Park” on Bluray, and it all came back to me: it was/is an astounding film. Filled with wonder, terror and laughter, it was one of Steven Spielberg’s last truly great works. The man was operating in top form as a technical craftsman and storyteller. What’s really amazing is that Spielberg was dividing his time and attention between making this and “Schindler’s List”, and the two films could not be more different. How he could simultaneously switch back and forth between a mainstream crowdpleaser and a heavy historical drama is beyond me.

Sadly, all the subsequent follow-ups to “Jurassic Park” have been major letdowns. It’s taken them over a decade to wash the taste of the 3rd movie out of their mouths, to even consider another one. But since 2010, there have been rumblings of a fourth film. Numerous ideas were thrown around but none ever got off the ground.

Today, Deadline broke the news that something concrete is finally happening with “Jurassic Park 4″. It seems that Universal Pictures has hired “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver to write. Which is great news, because as far as Electroshadow is concerned “Apes” was one of the best films of 2011. Spielberg himself will not be directing, which is too bad. But he still is serving as a producer and will be relatively hands on. He previously told Comingsoon.net that “We have a story, I can happily announce right now. Hopefully, we’ll be making ‘Jurassic Park 4′ in the near future. In the next two or three years.”

More updates as Electroshadow gets em…
