Summit Entertainment has not been deterred by the critical and Box Office mauling they received with “What To Expect When You’re Expecting”. The studio is now planning to adapt another self-help book, and to that end they’ve acquired the rights to “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus”. Deadline yesterday reported that a movie version of the bestselling book by John Gray is in the works. And they’ve already gotten a director and star. Newcomer Bryan Buckley will make the transition from directing TV commercials to feature films with this one, while Reese Witherspoon is attached as the leading lady. A pair of writers have also been hired, with Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan adapting the non-fiction material into a fictional storyline.

Author Gray’s official site describes the book, first published in 1992, like this: “This is the essential tool for couples who want to develop more satisfying relationships with their partners. Throughout the book, he provides a practical and proven way for men and women to communicate better by acknowledging the differences between them. Based on years of counseling couples and research, he gives advice on how to counteract these differences in communication styles, emotional needs and modes of behavior to promote a greater understanding between partners.”

“Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus” is scheduled for a January 2013 production start.
