Walt Disney Animation Studios seems to be taking a cue from Pixar Animation Studios. For the first time in a very long time (they used to do that back in the 50s), their upcoming feature film “Wreck-It Ralph” will have an animated short playing before the film starts. Titled “The Paperman”, it’s hand-drawn and rendered in black & white, which’ll give it that old Golden Age of Hollywood feel. Today, Entertainment Weekly provided a first look at the short, with 3 stills and a poster. Looks like classic Disney there, and I’m digging the simplicity of the poster…

Here’s an official description of the short: “Using a minimalist black-and-white style, the short, directed by John Kahrs and Kristina Reed, follows the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from his office. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to get her attention, his efforts are no match for what fate has in store for him.”

“Wreck-It Ralph” premieres 2nd November.

yazs: Yeah, hand drawn animation is sadly too rare nowadays.

gwen10: The lipstick mark on the paper plane is quite sweet, isn’t it?
