Director Tim Burton hasn’t been having a very good year. First, “Dark Shadows” was ripped apart by critics, and under-performed at the Box Office. Then as a producer, his “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” suffered an even more brutal fate. And rightfully so, for that movie was utterly horrendous. His last, best chance for redemption this year is “Frankenweenie”. It’s something of a passion project too, having been resurrected from an early short film he made in his younger days as an animator with Disney. So far, things are looking fairly promising, with this trailer revealing much more of the strange, morbid universe he’s created. Nice nod to “The Bride Of Frankenstein” there, btw…

Here’s the full plot synopsis: “From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous. A stop-motion animated film, “Frankenweenie” will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience.”

“Frankenweenie” features the voices of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, Robert Capron, Conchata Ferrell. It premieres 5th October.
