The San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) fun has begun! Kicking things off is this rather nifty viral marketing effort by Universal Pictures, for their upcoming sci-fi epic “Elysium”.

Comingsoon spotted a strange automated booth manned by a creepy mannequin, and it turned out to be a promo for the film. The “Border Station” booth run by the fictitious Armadyne Corporation from the movie greets attendees with a cheerful call to take their flyers. A closer inspection of the flyer reveals an offer to purchase housing on the corporation’s space station. Cool! And that price sounds like a bargain, seeing as how it comes with a Med-pod. A joint effort with the Weyland Corporation perhaps?

Here’s a brief description of the film: “Taking place in the year 2159, Elysium shows that two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.”

The flyer’s call-to-action takes you to a site called www.itsbetterupthere.com, where you can find out more about Armadyne. More updates as we get em…

“Elysium” is directed by Neill Blomkamp (“District 9″) and premieres 1st March 2013.
