New Cast Member & Story Details For RoboCop
The casting for director Jose Padilha’s remake of “RoboCop” continues to get more and more interesting. Now, they’ve added Jackie Earle Haley. A former child actor, he’s now built a career as a pretty respected character actor, earning acclaim in films like “Little Children” and “Watchmen”. The guy is no leading man, but he’s always fascinating to watch.
Deadline today reported that Haley has signed on to play Maddox, a military officer responsible for training the ill-fated Officer Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) after he is revived as a cyborg. Haley last appeared in Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows”. I’m betting his role here will be slightly creepy and off-centre, something he does very well.
The studio also released an official synopsis and it goes like this: “In the film, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.”
“RoboCop” also stars Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Hugh Laurie, and premieres 9th August 2013.
