Despicable Me Minions To Get Their Own Movie
Sometimes, the supporting characters in an animated movie turn out to be far more entertaining than the main ones. Good examples include Scrat from “Ice Age”, the penguins from “Madagascar”, and the Minions from “Despicable Me”. Evidently, Universal Pictures agrees.
Deadline today broke the news that the studio plans to do a feature film spin-off featuring those cute little yellow fellas. It will be another joint production with Illumination Entertainment, who did the first “Despicable”, and are currently working on the sequel. The Minions movie still hasn’t got a title yet, but a screenplay has already been drafted by Brian Lynch (“Hop”), with Kyle Balda (“The Lorax”) and Pierre Coffin (“Despicable Me”) attached to direct. I like the characters, as they were the most amusing part of the movie, much more so than Gru, the main baddie protagonist.
Meanwhile, “Despicable Me 2″ is currently in production, featuring the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand and Al Pacino. It is slated to hit cinemas 3rd July 2013. The Minions movie will be released in 2014.

*gasp* vanilla flavoured twiggie overdose! 2014 is a long way to go, but anyway, it would be cool if they came up with a movie just for Scrat.. it’d be like a Wall-E kinda animated film whereby there will be no conversations… just gestures and sounds..

e-Lena: I’ve been waiting for someone to make a full-on pantomime-type animated feature film like what you’ve mentioned…
