I’m not holding out much hope for “Taken 2″ to be much good. The first one was ruthlessly efficient, lean, focused and economical in its story and explosive in its action. That had a lot to do with its director Pierre Morel. He is not returning for the sequel though, and has been replaced by fellow Frenchman Olivier Megaton. Who is decidedly less awesome than his name would suggest. Besides, this story seems like a thinly veiled rehash. The only thing that might lift this up is the patently awesome Liam Neeson, who’s become quite a reliable action icon. Check out this full trailer, which expands on the setup hinted at in the previous teaser.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a particular set of skills who stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from Albanian kidnappers. When the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers one by one.”

“Taken 2″ premieres 5th October.
