The Last Stand Trailer
Welcome back Arnie, we missed you. Well, at least I have. Although Arnold Schwarzenegger has been in movies since leaving his political career, “The Last Stand” marks his real return in a starring role. And boy, does he look like he means business. This Western-flavoured actioner may seem small, but I think that’s precisely what he needs to revive his career. He is actually acknowledging the passage of time and how it’s not been kind to him. And there is a certain, dare I say it, gravitas in Arnold’s performance here that reminds me of the elder statesmen of the screen, like Clint Eastwood and even Morgan Freeman. Make no mistake, he still looks like he can kick ass, but from this trailer, all signs are pointing to this being a matured role, in every sense of the word. Plus, we’ve got a director like Kim Jee-Woon, who’s shown he’s got real flair and a distinct vision, in films like “I Saw The Devil”. Very promising. Not so sure about Johnny “Jackass” Knoxville’s presence here though…
Here’s the official synopsis: “Action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his much-anticipated return to the big screen in Korean director Kim Jee-woon’s hard-hitting US directorial debut, THE LAST STAND. After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy. With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow.”
“The Last Stand” also stars Forest Whitaker, Eduardo Noriega, Rodrigo Santoro, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Peter Stormare, Zach Gilford, and Genesis Rodriguez. It premieres 18th January 2013.
