Anyone familiar with director Brian De Palma’s body of work knows that he doesn’t shy away from the more lurid aspects of Cinema. Sex and violence are very much a part of his milieu. It’s been a long while since he’s done anything of worth. “Passion” looks like it could be a return to form for the man who gave us great stuff like “The Untouchables”, “Body Double”, and “Scarface”. A common fixture in De Palma’s film is the femme fatale, and here he appears to have two, in Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams. Who, interestingly enough, were the love interests in the two “Sherlock Holmes” movies, with Robert Downey, Jr. This time, their interests are each other, as “Passion” takes on a lesbian flavour. Hmmm. This teaser doesn’t reveal much, but does bear its director’s cold, unflinching touch. Could be good.

Here’s the official synopsis: “The offices of a prominent multinational corporation is the setting for this story of a power struggle between two contemporary women. Isabelle has unlimited admiration for her direct superior, Christine, a woman well-schooled in the ways of power. Christine enjoys holding sway over Isabelle, leads her one step at a time and ever more deeply into a game of seduction and manipulation, of dominance and servitude. The game is played for keeps, and there is no turning back.”

“Passion” also stars Karoline Herfurth and Paul Anderson. It is still pending a release date.
