It was about time, I guess. The Hollywood milking factory has now gotten its grubby mitts on the rich, ample udders of the Mr. Men property.
This delightful series of children’s books by Roger Hargreaves is a collection of quirky characters named via their physical or personality attributes (eg: Mr. Tickle, Mr. Greedy). I loved reading Mr. Men books when I was a kid, so I’m taking this news with a measure of (very) cautious optimism.
My optimism is tempered by the announcement that the animated feature film will be produced by Shawn Levy for Fox Animation. Levy has just gotten the director’s gig for the “Fantastic Voyage” remake, and his name is not one normally associated with quality. At least he’s not directing it.
The one thing I’d like to see preserved is the book’s unique visual style. Mr. Men art had a somewhat crude, hand-drawn feel to them and that was part of their charm. Knowing Fox, they’ll probably turn this into a CGI-animated thing. In 3D.
Sigh.

I love these characters.. in fact I’m trying to collect the tees. I also think that the movie should be drawn in the same style although I doubt it will be so. Hollywood tend to make everything 3D and CGI.
It’s getting so repetitive it’s boring. Meh.

The tees are indeed extremely popular here. I have one myself, though it was a gift. It’s Mr Perfect, and I don’t wear it very often for fear of people mistaking me for being perasan!
