Judi Dench is my favourite M. The head of British Military Intelligence organisation MI6 and boss of Agent 007 has been played by a number of actors in the franchise’s history. Dench is the first female M, so she brings a softer maternal side to the role, while remaining hard as diamonds. In my book she has the most commanding presence of all the M’s. When she talks, even the cavalier, devil-may-care James Bond listens.

So when 77 year-old Dame Judi spoke to English publication The Express, all ears were naturally on her. Especially since she was the harbinger of good news. The next (as yet untitled) Bond film is a go: ”I am going to do the next Bond in November. I don’t know the location yet but hopefully it will be somewhere nice. I can’t tell you much more but I do enjoy playing M as she is such a strong character. I like being bossy and my grandson thinks its cool that I’m in Bond.”

Imagine having a granny who makes a living barking orders at 007. Now that’s wicked. It’s good to hear that the project is a reality. Recently un-brankrupted film studio MGM is counting on this franchise to resurrect their fortunes. Daniel Craig will reprise his rebooted role as Ian Fleming’s legendary British spy, while Sam Mendes (“American Beauty”) is directing.
