X-Men: First Class Trailer 2
Seriously, Twentieth Century Fox is doing an absolutely schizophrenic marketing campaign on this film. On one hand, the posters have been terrible. The last few sets looked like they were designed by art school dropouts. On the other hand, the trailers thus far have been nothing short of superb. The footage itself is great and director Matthew Vaughn appears to be bringing his A-Game. And it sure helps that the editing and choice of shots for the trailers really sell the story of an alternate history, where mutants were involved in the Cuban Missile crisis. It completely re-contextualises the X-Men mythos and makes it sexy at the same time, what with the 60s setting and all.
A recurring theme (including this 2nd trailer) seems to be the growing idealogical differences between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender). Good call. Here, we also get to see much more mutant action and interaction. Things do look promising indeed. Just don’t look at the posters…
“X-Men: First Class” also stars Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, January Jones as Emma Frost, Zoe Kravitz as Angel, Lucas Till as Havok, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee, and Kevin Bacon as himself. The Marvel adaptation premieres 3rd June.

The marketing campaign’s very low key for a summer superhero flick. But I like the vibe of the film – very 60′s James Bond with the sci-fi leanings of the original. I thought it was a reboot till I saw the Nazi death camp scene from the first film.

Pacman: You’re right about the 60s Bond vibe. Good call.
