Edgar Wright has a rather distinctive style, and for the most part it’s terrifically entertaining. Sometimes however, his style gets a little too cute and look-at-me-I’m-cool for its own good. So what worked brilliantly for “Shaun of the Dead” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” didn’t quite pay off in “The World’s End”. And famously, he parted ways with Marvel after his vision of “Ant-Man” wasn’t deemed a right fit for the MCU.

Hopefully, his next movie “Baby Driver” will allow Wright to flex his creative muscles without showing off too much. We’ve got a new trailer meant for global audiences, and this one plays up the premise of a talented driver with an odd affectation. Ansel Elgort is a mixed bag as leading men go, but he looks suitably understated here, while the supporting cast are allowed to chew the scenery. Looks fun.

Here’s the official synopsis: “A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.”

“Baby Driver” stars Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent) as Baby, Kevin Spacey (The Usual Suspects) as Doc, Jon Hamm (Mad Men, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as Buddy, Lily James (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Cinderella) as Deborah, Eiza Gonzalez (Jem and the Holograms, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) as Darling, Jon Bernthal (Marvel’s Daredevil, The Walking Dead) as Griff, and Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) as Bats. It premieres 28th June.
