When Denis Villeneuve was announced as the director for the sequel to the Ridley Scott classic “Blade Runner”, I knew it was in good hands. Whether or not the movie turns out to be another great work of sci-fi, I know it will at least look stunning and have the right kind of tone.

Today, Warner Bros. Pictures released a brand new batch of imagery from “Blade Runner 2049”, including a pair of character posters featuring stars Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling. And it is indeed looking pretty damn cool. We get a glimpse of some future vehicles, and that looks like a new version of the iconic flying car known as the Spinner. It’s also interesting to see the new love interest/female lead, played by Ana De Armas, who is quite reminiscent of Sean Young from the original. Heck, Gosling’s whole look evokes Ford’s Rick Deckard, from the hairstyle to the trench coat. As for Deckard himself, the guy has clearly lost his sartorial sense. What’s with the grubby old t-shirt?

Here’s the official synopsis: “Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.”

“Blade Runner 2049” is directed by Denis Villeneuve from a screenplay by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and also stars Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, with Dave Bautista, Edward James Olmos and Jared Leto. It premieres 6th October.
