Now that the “Harry Potter” series has come to an end (for now), the stars are looking elsewhere to keep themselves from the unemployment line. Not that they need to worry. They’re already obscenely wealthy as it is. Former Hermione Granger (and future Mrs. Weasley) Emma Watson is sticking to the fantasy genre for now.
The 21-year-old British actress is in final talks to play the lead in a remake of classic tale “Beauty And The Beast”. According to Comingsoon, who spoke to producer Denise di Novi yesterday, Mexican director Guillermo del Toro (“Hellboy”) is planning his own version of the fairy tale, with some crucial new elements added. No details were released about these elements, but going by his body of work, it’s safe to say the Beast character will receive quite a make-over. Watson immediately came to del Toro’s mind when casting the role of Beauty, based on his viewings of the Potter films. Watson has certainly grown up to be a very lovely young lady, so physically at least, she’s a good fit for the part. Her acting still needs some polishing though. Watson has matured across the 8 Potter flicks, but she has a way to go before carrying an entire film on her slender shoulders. At least she’s stopped doing that annoying eyebrow-raising thing (check out the earlier movies for proof).
No other casting details have been announced. Let’s hope this one comes to fruition, since del Toro is notorious for starting projects without seeing them through.
