Last year, the much hoped-for rise of video game adaptations did not materialise. “Warcraft” and “Assassin’s Creed” were savaged by critics and mostly ignored by audiences, except for the former which did really in China. But that’s not stopping the makers of “Tomb Raider”, who finally got production going on the long-gestating reboot of the legendary property. As you know, the last time we saw Lara Croft, she was played by Angelina Jolie. This time, Alicia Vikander (“Ex Machina”) is filling her adventurous boots in a total reboot.
Today, we’ve got your first-ever look at Vikander in the role, via a bunch of set pics (via a fans Twitter page) on location in Cape Town, Africa. Her costume is clearly from the latest games, which also has Lara sporting a more modest, errr, bustline. It looks like Lara is making her escape from some captors, judging by the hand restraints.
“Tomb Raider” is directed by Norwegian Roar Uthaug (“The Wave”), and also stars Walton Goggins as villain Father Mathias Vogel, Daniel Wu as ship captain Lu Ren, and Dominic West as Croft’s father Lord Richard Croft. It premieres 16th March 2018.
