One of the curious things about Ridley Scott’s follow-up to “Prometheus” is Noomi Rapace not returning. The only remaining castmember is Michael Fassbender, who plays android David8. And that’s pretty much the only info on the characters we have thus far.
Today, 20th Century Fox decided to tease Fassbender’s return with a set photo showing him with Scott on the set of “Alien: Covenant” in Australia where filming is in full swing. Twp things stand out. One, David’s got his head reattached to his body. Heck, he’s got a whole new body in fact. And two, he’s no longer rocking a blonde hairdo. Make of that what you will.
Also, the studio previously released another on-set pic of another cast member, Katherine Waterston. Rumours have been swirling that her character is the mother of Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley from the 1979 original “Alien”. I really hope that’s not the case, as it’s just too contrived and reeks of fan service for the sake of it. Anyway, here’s what she looks like…
Here’s a summary of the film’s story: “Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”
“Alien: Covenant” is written by Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and Michael Green (Green Lantern), and stars Michael Fassbender (reprising his Prometheus role), Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down), Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Jussie Smolett (Empire), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills), and Billy Crudup (Watchmen). It premieres 4th August 2017.
