Anyone here old enough to remember “CHiPS”, the cop show that ran on TV during the late 70s/early 80s? Well, if you are then congratulations, you belong to a generation that knew what it was like to experience both camp and awesomeness at the same time.
The series, whose title was an acronym for California Highway Patrol, revolved around a pair of motorcycle officers, played by Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox, and their weekly adventures on the freeways of Los Angeles. Well, it’s now getting the “21 Jump Street” and “Baywatch” style of big screen treatment, as an R-rated action-comedy. And today, we’ve got a first look (via Entertainment Weekly) at new stars Michael Pena (in the Estrada role) and Dax Shepard on their spiffy new bikes.
Shepard is not just starring, he’s also writing and directing. When asked by EW why it has to be rated R, he said: “There’s female nudity. There’s more me nudity than probably any other nudity. And then yeah, there’s a lot of adult material and sexual stuff and naughty language.”
What’s more surprising is that we haven’t seen anything about this movie until now, and it comes out in a few months’ time. “CHIPS” premieres 24th March 2017.
