I have a lot more confidence in the “Jurassic World” sequel now that J.A. Bayonne is at the helm. The director of “A Monster Calls” — a great film (and on our Top 10 of 2016) — is taking over from Colin Trevorrow, who didn’t quite live up to the promise of his indie creds.
Anyway, production has begun under Bayona, and today he released a very early look at the movie. It shows an unknown little girl that some reports have said is named “Lucy”. Where is she? Whose fossil collection is that? Could this place be a museum at the theme park? The plot thickens…
“Every story is different and you need to find the depth of every story and try to express it on the screen,” Bayona recently told CS. “The ‘Jurassic World’ sequel is a more collaborative filmmaker experience, not only with Colin Trevorrow, but also with Steven [Spielberg] and with Frank Marshall. It’s their baby as much as it is mine. It’s about sharing views and working together to bring the story to life. But, at the same time, the way I face telling a story is to find something very personal. I think there will be plenty of myself also in the film.”
The as-yet untitled “Jurassic World” sequel stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Jones, Justice Smith, Rafe Spall, Ted Levine, Daniella Pineda, Geraldine Chaplin, and James Cromwell. It premieres 22nd June 2018.
