Why would a movie about a bad guy need a super villain antagonist? Well, we’ll find out in “Despicable Me 2”, the sequel to the hit animated comedy by Universal. This time, Gru the not-s-bad-after-all baddie is up against a mysterious and apparently very dangerous enemy known only as El Macho.

The studio today debuted a first look at the character who will be voiced by Benjamin Bratt (“Miss Congeniality”). Al Pacino was previously signed on for this role but dropped out due to “creative differences”, so Bratt replaced him. Oh look, El Macho’s riding a shark. Now that’s bad(ass). Looks like Gru’s in for a tough challenge. Check it out…

Here’s the official summary: “Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s worldwide blockbuster, “Despicable Me,” delighted audiences around the globe in 2010, grossing more than $540 million and becoming the 10th-biggest animated motion picture in U.S. history. In Summer 2013, get ready for more minion madness in “Despicable Me 2.” Chris Meledandri and his acclaimed filmmaking team create an all-new comedy animated adventure featuring the return of Gru (Steve Carell), the girls, the unpredictably hilarious minions… and a host of new and outrageously funny characters.”

“Despicable Me 2” is directed by Chris Renaud & Pierre Coffin and features the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, Steve Coogan, Ken Jeong, and Benjamin Bratt. It premieres 3rd July 2013.
