Entertainment Weekly yesterday debuted a first-ever look at scenes from the upcoming “The Amazing Spider-Man”.

Nope, still not digging the suit. I think it’s changing the design for the sake of it, or rather for the sake of differentiating this reboot from Sam Raimi’s trilogy. Other than that though, I am digging the overall look and feel of director Marc Webb’s alternate retelling of Marvel’s most popular superhero. This version of Peter Parker, played by Andrew Garfield, has mechanical webshooters. And his true high-school sweetheart is Gwen Stacey. I gotta say I love Emma Stone’s look as Gwen. It’s like she stepped right out of the pages of the classic comicbook! They’ve also skewed a wee bit younger for Aunt May and Uncle Ben (Sally Field and Martin Sheen, respectively). Sheen is a pretty solid choice for Ben Parker. I mean, there’s still a lot of goodwill from his days as as the American President on “The West Wing”. Dennis Leary plays Captain Stacey, Gwen’s dad, while Rhys Ifans plays Dr Curt Connors aka The Lizard. This is shaping up nicely…

“The Amazing Spider-man” premieres 3rd July 2012.
