Slowly but surely, “Fury” is creeping up on the radar to be one of the most eagerly anticipated movies of the year-end season. Every new trailer and featurette they release piles on the feeling that we may have a pretty damn good war film on our hands. Personally, I think director David Ayer is a very inconsistent filmmaker. He’s capable of excellence (“End Of Watch”) and at the next turn he delivers duds like “Sabotage”. But my senses on this are mostly positive, and it’s got an interesting cast. Brad Pitt appears to be carrying over his “Inglourious Basterds” role into this, but minus the smirking self-awareness. The rest of them, from Jon Bernthal to Michael Pena come off pretty believable here, and even Shia LaBeouf might turn out a good performance. Can’t wait for this.
Here’s the official synopsis: “April, 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.”
“Fury” stars Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena, Jon Bernthal, and Jason Isaacs. It premieres 14th November.
