Sideshow Indiana Jones Raiders Of The Lost Ark Premium Format figure
I began collecting in early 2008. By then, I’d missed out on a lot of crucial stuff. One of my most sought-after collectibles was this superb piece, what collectors refer to as a “Grail”. An extremely hard-to-find collectible, even on the after-market. A nice bit of irony here, actually. The world’s foremost Holy Grail hunter had himself become a grail. He was my Grail.
After nearly a year of searching, I tracked him down to an exotic, faraway land. Well, Singapore. Then, 72 hours and 650 kilometers later, Indy came home with me.
For those unfamiliar with this hobby, allow me to explain what a Premium Format figure is. It’s basically a large statue (usually measuring about 18inches tall) made primarily out of polystone, which is a strong yet lightweight resin. To enhance the overall realism, clothing and accessories are made from real fabric or leather. PFs are made by a company called Sideshow Collectibles.
As you can see from the pics, the likeness to Harrison Ford is pretty spot-on. The sculpt captures Ford’s distinctive features and his trademark Indy smirk, while the paintwork conveys the skintone of an adventurer who’s spent too much time out under the desert sun. Here, he’s posed with his whip in one hand and the infamous golden Fertility Idol in his other hand.
The Raiders PF is now considered a classic and is all but sold-out on places like ebay. You can still get one, but at a handsome fee. Not quite priceless, but a rare artifact indeed. Indy himself would no doubt approve.
