“John Wick” was made for a shoestring budget of just US$20 million budget, and went on to become a cult hit. Director Chad Stahelski, screenwriter Derek Kolstad, and leading man Keanu Reeves are all back (minus the first one’s co-director David Leitch) for one of the most welcome sequels ever. The star and his creative team attended the New York Comic Con over the weekend, and brought with them an exclusive first-look at “John Wick: Chapter 2”, plus a panel where they revealed a whole bunch of things. Tidbits like what brings Wick out of retirement (it’s not his dog, but an old “blood oath” which he must repay), and that we will see more of the intriguing world of the hitmen and their curious code of honour. As teasers go, this is aimed solely at getting us excited about Wick’s return, and yeah, I’m thinking he’s back. Get ready for even more gratuitous headshots, expert gunplay, a mini-“Matrix” reunion. Can’t wait!
Here’s the official synopsis: “Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.”
“John Wick: Chapter 2” also stars Common, Riccardo Scamarcio, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick, Franco Nero, John Leguizamo, Willem Dafoe, and Ian McShane. It premieres 10th February 2017.
