“Kingsman: The Secret Service” turned out to be a fantastic surprise, but for the sequel the expectations are understandably high. 20th Century Fox spent the better part of last week teasing us with teasers for their teaser trailer, and today it’s finally dropped. And I gotta say it’s looking every bit as energetic, crazy, enigmatic, and balls-out fun as I’d hoped… and then some. This is one heck of a trailer, and even though it’s got a slightly sombre tone to it (the Kingsmen are in very dire straits this round) it’s never ponderous or self-serious for one bit. And the worst-kept secret of Colin Firth’s return are confirmed here in no uncertain terms. Eggsy and Merlin are looking pretty shocked though, so I’m guessing his death in the first one was real.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Kingsman: The Secret Service introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…”

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” is directed by Matthew Vaughn from a script by Jane Goldman and Vaughn, based on the comic book The Secret Service by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, and stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry with Sir Elton John, and Channing Tatum, and Jeff Bridges. It premieres 22nd September.
