This year’s Super Bowl brings yet another trailer, and this one is for the sci-fi thriller “Life”. It strikes me as a cross between “Gravity” and “Alien”/”Prometheus”, with a bunch of space-faring astronauts finding alien life that turns out to be less than friendly. It’s got an interesting cast, with two guys who are usually leading men sharing the spotlight here. I’m always up for this kind of stuff, so hopefully this doesn’t turn out to have the kind of dumb shit that marred the Ridley Scott movie. That scene with the scientist guy sticking his hand right in front of an unknown extraterrestrial entity is a worrying sign though.
Here’s the official synopsis: “Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.”
“Life” is directed by Daniel Espinosa from a script by Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese, and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson, and Hiroyuki Sanada. It premieres 24th March.
