“Jurassic World” premiered over the weekend, and it confounded all expectations to make a whopping $200.8 million at the US Box Office and just over US$500 million worldwide. That’s in just 3 days! That amount was enough to topple the all-time best opening weekend record held by Marvel’s “The Avengers” back in 2012 ($207.4m).
Ever a good sport, Marvel responded with a message of congratulations to the makers of the film and Universal Pictures, via studio president Kevin Feige’s Twitter page. He also posted a cute piece of artwork showing Chris Pratt, who is of course the star of Marvel’s own “Guardians Of The Galaxy”, astride a Mjolnir-wielding T-Rex. Looks like they’re worthy. The artwork was created by Marvel conceptual designer Andy Park. I wonder if Feige is consciously carrying on a tradition started back in the 1970s when George Lucas and Steven Spielberg would exchange similar congratulatory messages for their respective blockbusters like “Star Wars” and “Jaws”. Spielberg is an executive producer on “Jurassic World” so the thread is unbroken. Nice tradition, no.
“Jurassic World” stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Judy Greer, Chris Pratt, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, BD Wong, Omar Sy, Katie McGrath, Lauren Lapkus, Andy Buckley.
