The “Despicable Me” franchise was really made entertaining by the little yellow fellas known as Minions, and now Illumination Entertainment has had the good sense to give them their own movie. There were concerns however, about their appeal not being able to stretch to fill a whole movie of their own. But based on this trailer, I’d say those concerns are about to be forgotten. They’ve packed more comedy and pathos in under 3 minutes than most movies can manage in about 2 hours. I just love the gags here! This has suddenly shot very high up on the list of things I want to watch next year.
Here’s the official synopsis: “The Minions, breakout stars from “Despicable Me,” are presented in an origin story that showcases their unpredictable personality and physicality, and pairs them with equally memorable human characters. As it turns out, Minions have existed since the beginning of time. They have evolved from single (yellow) cell organisms into the familiar beings we know, and they live for a collective purpose: to seek out and serve the most despicable master they can find. Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock will lead the voice cast of the human characters as Scarlett Overkill, the world’s reigning super-villain of the 1960s.”
“Minions” is directed by Kyle Balda & Pierre Coffin and features the voices of Sandra Bullock, and Jon Hamm. It premieres 10th July 2015.
