ariadna-gutierrez XXX

The winner of Miss Universe 2016 was (not) Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez. By now, that mix-up is the stuff of beauty pageant legend, but that’s not stopping her.

Today, TheWrap broke the news that 1st Runner-Up Gutierrez has signed on to appear in “xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage”, the action would-be franchise that Vin Diesel initially abandoned but is now hell-bent on resurrecting, along with his supposed-to-be-dead character.

The report says that Gutierrez will play one of Diesel’s love interests in the sequel. If you have been living under a rock on Mars for the last couple of months, Gutierrez was the subject of an unfortunate incident where host Steve Harvey incorrectly announced her as the winner. He then corrected himself, and Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach was announced as the actual Miss Universe 2016. It’s unknown at this point what kind of acting chops Gutierrez has, but it’s hard not to think that this casting is anything more than a gimmick. Still, her role will probably be minor, so it won’t affect the rest of the movie too much. I’m way more concerned about whether Diesel and co can churn out a watchable flick.

Here’s what we know of the sequel so far: “The third explosive chapter of the blockbuster franchise that redefined the spy thriller finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments. Packed with the series’ signature deadpan wit and bad-ass attitude, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage will raise the bar on extreme action with some of the most mind-blowing stunts to ever be caught on film.

Joining Diesel are Ruby Rose (“Orange is the New Black”), Donnie Yen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Toni Collette (Krampus), Tony Jaa (Furious 7), Nina Dobrev (“The Vampire Diaries”), and Samuel L. Jackson returning as Agent Augustus Eugene Gibbons, whom he played in the previous two installments. There is also a rumor that Ice Cube’s Darius Stone may return, although the truth of that and size of his role are yet to be determined. D.J. Caruso (I Am Number Four) is directing xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. The film is written by Chad St. John (London Has Fallen) with current revisions by F. Scott Frazier (Collide).”

“xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage” premieres 20th January 2017.

This is an unexpected turn of career for Miss Columbia. After what happened to her you’d think that would be the most famous she’d ever get. Maybe becoming a movie star will give her career a 2nd wind.

Heavenleigh: Not sure if this will make her a star. This is hardly a blockbuster franchise.
