Don’t you just hate it when a studio gives away practically its entire movie in the trailer? (example: “The Space Between Us” trailer) Surprisingly, the best trailer we’ve seen this week comes from 20th Century Fox, who are known to botch their marketing (apart from “Deadpool”). Today, they debuted a teaser for a mysterious new sci-fi horror called “Morgan”, and it’s creepy, tense and a brilliant exercise in restraint. In fact, they’ve exercised so much restraint, 3/4 of their cast (Michelle Yeoh, Paul Giamatti) doesn’t even appear in this trailer. I don’t know anything about the title character, but now I want to watch this. Then there’s the fact that it’s the directorial debut of Luke Scott, son of Ridley. And as soon as I heard Anya Taylor-Joy was in this, I was sold. She was amazing in “The Witch”. We’re in dire need of more good horror, so hopefully this lives up to its rather exciting promise.
Here’s the official synopsis: “A corporate troubleshooter (Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.”
Morgan is written by Seth Owen, and produced by Ridley Scott. The film stars Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Toby Jones, Rose Leslie, Boyd Holbrook, Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Paul Giamatti. It premieres 2nd September in the US.
