Since “Warcraft” didn’t light the world on fire, attentions have turned to this year’s other major videogame adaptation to prove that videogame adaptations can be both critically and commercially successful. And that next big hope is “Assassin’s Creed”, from the director/star combo of the acclaimed new cinematic version of “Macbeth”, Justin Kurzel and Michael Fassbender. Anticipation for it has been slowly but steadily creeping upwards, and though we still have a good 5 months before its release, 20th Century Fox has been doing a decent job of seeding public awareness for the film.
Today, the studio released a bunch of new stills via the movie’s official Twitter feed. The images were captioned “We work in the dark to serve the light,” which fans of the Ubisoft video game series should immediately recognise. Cool.
Here’s the official synopsis: “Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.”
“Assassin’s Creed” stars Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Khalid Abdalla, Michael K. Williams. It premieres 21st December.
