I’m not entirely sold on the latest Wolverine movie “Logan”. The teaser did little to excite me, even though a lot of folks were raving about the bleak tone. The images that the studio’s released have been a bit better, but I still get the feeling this isn’t the best way to get audiences into what is essentially Hugh Jackman’s final outing as the clawed mutant. It’s simply too low key. And for all the talk that this is going to be R-rated, it’s not reflected in any of the marketing so far. It doesn’t have to be gory, but give us more to go on than just moody silhouetted figures.
Speaking of which, Hugh Jackman today debuted the new “Logan” on social media. We’ve also got another poster plus a bunch of shots that underline just how alone and grim our protagonist is here.
Here’s what we know on the movie so far (via Comingsoon): “The primary villains for the film will include The Reavers as well as Wolverine’s favorite group, Weapon X. It stands to reason that Sinister’s role in the film will be tied to the creation of X-23, played by Dafne Keen in the film, the young female clone of Wolverine also along for the film’s road trip.”
“Logan” also stars Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant and Dafne Keen. James Mangold directs from a script by Michael Green, Scott Frank and Mangold. The film is produced by Simon Kinberg, Hutch Parker and Lauren Shuler Donner. It premieres 3rd March 2017.
