20th Century Fox generally does a lousy job promoting their “X-Men” movies. If you’ve seen their hideous posters, especially the ones for “X-Men: First Class” you’ll know what I mean. Well, things have improved since then, and the studio’s latest efforts are actually not bad.
Today, a series of character posters for “X-Men: Apocalypse” were released online, featuring the titular baddie’s Four Horsemen (mutants he recruits to his evil cause). Namely, Erik Lensherr aka Magneto, Elizabeth Braddock aka Psylocke, Warren Waorthington III aka Angel, and Ororo Munroe aka Storm. As posters go, these sure are better than the usual Photoshopped floating heads garbage we usually get. I like the painterly quality and the minimalise approach. No movie logo, no cast listing, just Apocalypse’s insignia. Classy.
Here’s the official synopsis: “Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” director Bryan Singer returns with “X-Men: Apocalypse.” Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
“X-Men: Apocalypse” stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor, and Ben Hardy. It premieres 27th May.
