Could this be it? Could we finally have a great Spider-Man movie on our hands? The closest we ever got was Sam Ramie’s “Spiderman 2”, and it’s all been downhill since then. Now, with Sony tying up with Marvel Studios for a total reboot, it looks like they’ve gotten the character right. This full trailer sure seems to promise that. It’s got a pretty liable Peter Parker at its core, played by Tom Holland, one who for the first time ever actually does come off like a real teenager.

Then there’s the hint of a genuinely menacing adversary in the Vulture, played by the always awesome Michael Keaton. Apparently, Vulture and his cohorts (Shocker and The Tinkerer) are in possession of alien tech from the Chitauri invasion back in “The Avengers”. A very definite link to the MCU, apart from the glaringly obvious involvement of Tony Stark, who is in full-on mentor mode here. It’s nice to see Stark being a proper adult for a change, and not the snarky jerk he’s been for the last 3 or 4 outings. All in all, this is a pretty good trailer and it feels very much like the property is in good hands.

Here’s the official synopsis: “A young Peter Parker / Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.”

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is directed by Jon Watts, written by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley, Jon Watts & Christopher Ford, and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, and also stars Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Donald Glover and Tyne Daly. It premieres 7th July.
