It’s a little mind-blowing for “Star Wars” die hards like myself to realise that the next chapter in the ongoing adventures in that galaxy far, far away is arriving in less than 3 months. Even more so when you stop to consider that there’ll be a “Star Wars” movie of some kind every single year for the next half decade or so. But are they all linked in any significant way beyond just a shared universe? For Episodes VII to IX, yes. But there’s more to it, according to Lucasfilm President and hands-on producer Kathleen Kennedy.

In an interview with Costco Connection, Kennedy revealed that “there are planned to be nine distinct Star Wars saga films in the end, broken down into three distinct trilogies.” Not only that, in the sequel trilogy, she hints ever so slightly that we might actually be seeing another member of the Skywalker family!

Kennedy said: “The saga films focus on the Skywalker family. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. ‘The Force Awakens’ follows ‘Return of the Jedi’ and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe.”

Okay, so Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker (see the supposed leaked pic above of him in costume) is in it of course. But Kennedy mentioned “family” so it’s likely that beyond these two, there might be one or more of the next generation of Skywalkers. Take this with a pinch of Tatooine salt for now, but one thing’s for sure: they’re keeping some secrets from us that will only be revealed in December.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is directed by JJ Abrams, and stars Starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou. It premieres 17th December. The as-yet untitled “Episode VIII” is scheduled to premiere 26th May 2017, while “Episode IX” will arrive sometime in 2019.
