This is a pleasant surprise. I didn’t expect a trailer so far out from the film’s year-end release. Then again, “The Desolation Of Smaug” has been filming back-to-back with the rest of the trilogy, as planned by director Peter Jackson and co. Speaking of Smaug, we finally get to see that big ol’ dragon, and I like the way Jackson introduces him. Still no sign of Benedict Cumberbatch’s vocal work as Smaug though. But we do get the return of old fan favourite Legolas, and what I suspect will be a new fan favourite, Tauriel, a new creation for these films. Evangeline Lilly sure rocks those Elven ears. And she looks pretty nifty with a bow & arrow too. Could this middle instalment be a big improvement? Let’s hope.
