Robert DeNiro may be a living legend but his career hasn’t exactly been great in the last decade or so. He rarely comes alive on screen these days, even when he’s trying his hand at comedy. Maybe “The Intern” might change that. He stars alongside fellow Oscar winner Anne Hathaway as a pension-age intern and his much younger boss, respectively. It’s directed by Nancy Meyers, who gave us stuff like “What Women Want” and “Something’s Gotta Give” so you should know what to expect from this. Still, watching this trailer it’s clear that DeNiro and Hathaway share an easy chemistry, and there are some sweet little moments here & there. Could be good.

Here’s the synopsis: “Robert De Niro plays Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old widower who has discovered that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin (Hathaway).”

“The Intern” stars Anne Hathaway, Robert De Niro, Celia Weston, Rene Russo, Adam DeVine, Nat Wolff, Zack Pearlman, Linda Lavin, Anders Holm, Andrew Rannells, Jason Orley, Christina Scherer. It premieres 25th September.

It’s nice to see that they seem to be treating seniors trying their way around this digital with respect. It would have been so easy to make this a fish-out-of-water story, and make the old guy look like a complete buffoon. But they seem to be putting both the young and the old on equal footing.

I think I’d like to see this.

gwen10: Good point. The last they did that whole older-guys-are-tech-buffoons thing, we got “The Internship” and it was crap.
