There seems to be a pattern emerging for this year’s Summer blockbusters with good guys going rogue. There’s “Fast & Furious 8” and “Transformers: The Last Knight” sees series stalwart Optimus Prime seemingly betraying the Autobots and all of humanity. Not that this really matters because for the last couple of sequels, director Michael Bay has gone out of his way to make us not give a shit about Prime or any of the titular robots.
This latest bit of footage continues that fine tradition. I am way past giving Bay the benefit of the doubt, so I can safely declare that this movie will be garbage. Will still watch it though, more out of morbid curiosity and professional obligation (the things I do for you, dear readers) than anything. But hey, this one’s got Knights, and Nazis, and Winston Churchill, so it must be have something going for it, no? No.
Here’s the official synopsis: “Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth entry in the big screen franchise, shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).
There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.”
“Transformers: The Last Knight” also stars Josh Duhamel as Lieutenant Colonel Lennox, Stanley Tucci as Joshua Joyce, Jerrod Carmichael as Desi, and Isabela Moner as the film’s female lead, Izabella. Liam Carrigan (Once Upon a Time) is also set to appear in the film as King Arthur. It premieres 23rd June.
