Vin Diesel has been talking a LOT in the last few months about his involvement in a Marvel superhero movie. Previously, he Tweeted pics of himself in front of the cover of “The Avengers” comics, leading fans to speculate he’d either be voicing Ultron or playing The Vision. The heat stepped up when he hinted on Facebook last week that he’d be in “Guardians Of The Galaxy”. Now, it seems confirmation has all but come that he will be providing the voice of Groot The Living Tree, an alien member of the Guardians. Never mind that Groot only says his name in the comics and not much else. Today, The L.A. Times managed to grab hold of Diesel and spoke to the “Fast & Furious” & “Riddick” star about the role and his ongoing social media presence.

He said: “I’m an actor. Not everything has to be the most obvious choice. And sometimes, the best thing you can do — as far as Steven Spielberg and his advice — is to defy expectations. So if everybody thinks you’re going to go for this one thing and you flip it entirely and go for the strangest Marvel character, it’s interesting. And when something is interesting, it’s inspiring.”

That’s not exactly a 100% “I am voicing Groot”, but we’re pretty sure the studio will be making an announcement fairly soon. When asked if Marvel Studios might not be too pleased with his social media teases, Diesel responded: “The last thing they are is mad. I’m pretty open, but I have been secretive about this. I went to Comic-Con and I got blasted while I was on the Hall H panel for ‘Riddick.’ Someone asked a Marvel question. I couldn’t say anything because of that secrecy.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy” stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close. It premieres 1st August 2014.
